This is a great event that is sure to get you pumped up about recruiting activities. This is an essential part of our pack's good health.

This training will give you ideas on recruiting as well as some supplies to help us out.

See the link below for more details. It will be held at the South United Methodist Church Manchester.

Etc/GMT-4

Round tables are district level meeting for leaders to meet, get trained, learn and share how to run effective scouting programs. It is also one way we get information about what is going on in our area as well as pick up mail for our pack.

It is important the each month our pack is represented, so if you can attend one or more of these please do. It is a great way to "recharge the scout-leader batteries".

2008-07 July

It's time to get started planning next year already!

2008-06 June

Minutes

  1. Spring sleep-over: $55/scout? Tentatively Saturday April 18
  2. Raingutter Regatta (and space derby?) in fall thought to be worth pursuing
  3. Fundraiser: Popcorn Kernel will be Ross - Thanks for volunteering!
  4. Bike Rodeo: Bill R will chair, since he keeps saying he wants to do it :-) date TDB. Invite Northeast pack (Pack 86?) to join us?
  5. We seem to have about $600 in our account. Some money still coming in from United Way donations and volunteer grants
  6. Change scout store authorized leaders to: Bill R, Bill G, Bruce L. and Dennis T. May adjust more later. We should probably better track what money is spent on. (pins, belt loops, patches, other suupplies, recharter etc. all went through scout store this year)
  7. Scout joining night/recruitment activities:
    1. Hit up area schools that don't have affiliated pack/parochial school?
    2. kids "business card" type cards to have kids share?
    3. trading cards of kids? How have others done this?
    4. Flyers to teachers to go to kids
    5. Make a game out of kids sharing about scouts somehow (maybe game for kids being recruited too?)
  8. Investigating possibility of a can drive in June or July
  9. Next meeting in July

Committe Agenda Prep

Oops...committee meetings should probably not be scheduled on school function nights...this meeting was cancelled. Here is the Agenda of what I was going to cover. Please contact me with any comments or discussion. Summary of events to handle:
  1. May 3-4 BALOO & WLOT training(3 leaders besides myself participated - thanks!)
  2. [Cancelled]May 11 Pack Olympics
  3. May 17 Pack Hike 1:00 on Bread and Butter Rd
  4. [Dropped]May 26 Memorial Day Parade - The pack is not participating this year due to several leadership schedule conflicts. Please remember to honor those who have died in military service.
  5. May 31 1:00PM(?)-june 1 10:00AM - Picnic/sleep-over
  6. October 5 - Vernon parade - registered as a bike parade, this can change
  7. BSA Cards are in!

BALOO and WLOT training

We now have 4 BALOO trained leaders and 3 OSLWL (Webelos overnight skills) leaders.

Let's all thank Dennis T, Bruce L, Bill G for joining me last weekend for BALOO. BALOO trained leaders are required to organize and be responsible for any pack overnight event.

Let's also thank Bill G and Bruce L who stayed overnight to complete the OSLWL training with me as well. This training was geared to webelos leaders and covers how to run an overnight Webelos campout with hikes and campfire program. It also is a prep course for what to think about if a Webelos is interested in preparing for boy scouts where more independent camping and backpacking kicks in.

Leader training is vital to putting on a good educational scout program that is also fun. All leaders should try to take training for their position. This will give them the confidence and skills to carry out their part of the program, including how to include other parents and community leaders in their den programs.

Pack Olympics

We cancelled the Pack Olympics this year. I really didn't want to do this but it was just not coming together. Perhaps we will roll some of these events into the picnic/sleepover

Pack Hike

Saturday May 17, 1:00PM, meeting at the Bread and Butter Rd. field.

Please be sure to bring plenty to drink as well as bugspray, just in case.

We will have a guided tour of Belden Wildlife center. If you haven't been there before, the Belden Wildlife center is a jewel I did not know we had until recently. It is well maintained and there is a lot to see along its many paths.

In the past we've done a picnic as well as a hike. I'm thinking we will probably bring a light snack for the kids but no drinks, so please be sure to bring plenty to drink.

Memorial Day Parade

We did not register for this, we need to contact the town to make sure we have a spot.

Memorial Day is not just a 3-day weekend. Please encourage your scouts to take some time to remember and honor our fallen soldiers.

If there is interest in this event, let me know ASAP. It is possible to just show up and be included(at least we've done that a couple times years ago) I have the supplies you would need to participate.

BSA cards are in!

This year's BSA cards came in! I'll be handing them out at our next 2 events.

Pack Picnic/camp out

Saturday May 31, 1:00PM(?) - June 1 10:00AM. We will likely open up the park and start setting up by 10:00AM on Saturday, join us then if you like.

We need help! I think our newly WLOT trained leaders will be an asset here for the program itself, but we still need help for events, cooking, games, etc. there are lots of parts to cover.

This event is big and complex enough I have separate planning papers and meetings. Please let me know if you remember something from last year or have a new idea for this year that you'd like to help out with.
